Bone on Bone Knees

My January 2012 Blog Post Article Degenerative Knees (Bone on Bone) Will Regenerate sure does attract a lot of readers and comments!  I get the most inquiries about this article and problem.

If a person is serious and committed and will do WHATEVER it takes to get out of pain and has "stick to it-ness" then the chances of stopping any joint degeneration increases dramatically.

But when the rubber meets the road and it is time to take action which means taking real responsibility for a problem the owner created (unless the joint was severely and directly damaged in an accident), many people throw in the towel.  Bone on bone joints don't just appear like a flu or an alien attack from outer space nor are they due to old age or genetics.

Some people don't want to have to work for it and or they don't want to pay out of pocket for it.  Hey, real healing real rebalancing of the musculoskeletal system takes time and commitment, there is no ride to the top in the elevator, you have to take the stairs.  There is no pill, juice, no magic ointment or vitamin.  No shortcuts.

The best thing to do honestly is to stop and look at yourself in the mirror or in photos.  Come in or email your photos to us.  The muscles should have enough equal tension side to side and front to back to hold the joints and body in vertical and horizontal alignment.  If your knee joint(s) are not pointing straight ahead and directly under your hip joint (in the crease of your leg NOT out to the side of the body) and they are not over your ankle joint - forget it.  You have muscle imbalances which in most cases are correctable IF you want to do the work.  No joint replacement surgery can make these muscular corrections.

The next best thing to do is to get busy rebalancing your muscles with The Egoscue Method.  (Don't buy that new car yet, maybe put off the European vacation or cruise for a year.)  Get the money, make the commitment and find a really good Egoscue Therapist with a solid track record and submerge yourself in the process and follow their instructions.

Pilates, yoga, strength stretch training, acupuncture and chiropractic does not focus on aligning the whole body, all joints, changing muscle memory because the patient and their muscles is a passive receiver. The gym equipment and personal training does nothing to bring the body back into the actual center of gravity to get all the joints and body functioning optimally with no friction.

Many clients we work with are astounded to learn that pelvic or hip or shoulder or knee or ankle movement, position, functions were never a focus of their therapy or efforts.  (Many therapists and practitioners do not know or are not trained in proper BIOMECHANICS of the body and all joints.  Even though Orthopedics doctors do have this training they are only concerned with the joint in pain and don't treat the body as an integrated unit and therefore miss the real cause of the dysfunction above or below the knee or bone on bone joint.)

If your pelvis and knees (shoulders or ankles) are rotated, the gym equipment is not designed to correct that.  Put a crooked body in the gym machines, a stronger crooked body emerges.

Muscles get into patterns and oftentimes bad habits which few people understand, no one talks about or looks for.  Over time muscle memory is established.  Going to the gym, is just reinforcing the existing muscle memory patterns.  The Egoscue Method establishes a new functional muscle memory OR I should say YOU ESTABLISH A NEW MUSCLE MEMORY using The Egoscue Method exercise based therapy.
